Sorrento Bowls Club hosts the inaugural Primary Schools Lawn Bowls Challenge!

A supportive crowd of teachers and parents from participating schools came along to watch the challenge which was supervised by a team of ten Sorrento Bowls Club members measuring and scoring the matches and an official umpire for the day, Graham Woodrow of Rye.

Sorrento Primary School took out both the winner's and the runner's-up trophies:

The winners (above): were a Year 5 team  called "John's Jaguars"  (inspired by Sorrento Bowls Club member John Shepherd who coached the children over 3 weeks leading up to the challenge. The team won with 22 shots up while the runners-up (below) with 14 shots up were another Year 5  team called  "Sassy Sorrento".

Trophies were awarded to the two winning teams and donated by Sorrento Bowls Club President, Rod Bell.

Certificates  were also  presented to all participating schools

It has set the challenge for an ongoing event on an annual basis at Sorrento Bowls Club working closely with the P.E. teachers at local schools.

and early indications are that the event will attract even more schools across the peninsula next year.

My special thanks to Club members who coached and assisted with the event:  Doreen Winnett, Joy George, Peg Richardson, Sue Gray,  Ann Walsh, John Shepherd, Paul Fitzjohn, Mark Smith, John Phillingham, Rod Nettlefold and Perti Palvianen.
